Memorial Picture "...ALBENZI, AT2 Angelo...To all who knew AT2 Angelo Albenzi who served with VP-24 as an IFT from 1977 to 1979 and was searching for those of the squadron that served with him. After avionics training at NATTC Memphis, Tennessee from 1975-1976, he went for additional training VP-30 NAS Jacksonville, Florida, 1976-1977 and became attached to VP-24 as IFT, AT2, from 1977-1979. From there to NADU, 1979-1981. Angelo fought a good fight, from the very beginning when he was diagnosed with cancer as a child. He managed to stay free from it almost until the end. Angelo went on after his service to obtain a B.A.in Accounting from PennState University and worked in the field until his late 30's. It was about that time that I think the cancer had probably started to come back, but he was unaware of ti until about 2 years prior to his death. Angelo died in June of 2003. I knew him for the past 13 years and would be happy to relate details of his life to any of his former crewmembers and comrades that are interested. I hope that some of you were able to contact him from his posting on this site prior to his death. God bless is soul and may he finally rest in peace...B. Brown bhayesbr@aol.com..." [24AUG2004]

I also got to fly as aircrew on two Connies (Planner 3 BUNO: 135754 and Planner 4 BUNO: 141297). We had a JD-1 BUNO: 77206 and an R4D-8 BUNO: 99857 in the squadron during the time I was there. I got to get a hop on each of those planes as well. From there I was assigned to VS-36 NAS Norfolk, Virginia. We were with Task Group Alfa and sailed on the USS Randolph (two weeks out and two weeks in)..." [02NOV2003]

FINNERAN, Michael finneranmike@hotmail.com "...I served as a radio operator with VP-18 from 1957 to 1960. I served on crew 2 with Murray J. Coleman as Plane Captain and later Jim Pence as Plane Captain. We were stationed in NAS Jacksonville, Florida and deployed regularly to NS Roosevelt Roads, PR. I think of many of the squadron and wonder where they are. I made a deployment to NAS Sigonella, Sicily and on that trip, the aircraft was hit by lightning and lost the starboard searchlight. I later injuted my back. The crew flew me to Africa where I was medivaced back to the States. I would like to find out where the rest of the crew is now. Names keep comming back to me and I dont know how to contact them. Will there be a Reunion soon? I was stationed with NADU at NAS South Weymouth, Massachusetts in 1959/60 up to the decommissioning of the unit. I flew with "skyhook" and was at that time working as an "AT". I am interested in locating any of the other members of the unit and asking if there are any plans for a Reunion?..." [BIO Updated 14MAR2005 | 29JUL2003]

MAXYMILLIAN, AT2 Frank bluemax4@verizon.net "...I enlisted in Massachusetts in April of 1953 on a kiddie cruise. Did boot training at Bainbridge MD, then to Airman Prep school at NATC NAS Norman, Oklahoma. I was determined to go to Aviation Machinist School and work on aircraft engines but it was determined by "Higher Authority" that I would "volunteer" for and accept Aviation Electronics Tech "A" school at NATTC NAS Memphis, Tennessee. I was assigned to 2 months mess cook duty before starting school. That was choice duty. No duty sections, we kept our liberty cards in our pockets and as long as we showed up on time and did our work no one cared where we went or what we did. On completion of "A" school in the summer of 1954 I was assigned to the Naval Air Development Unit (NADU) at NAS South Weymouth, Massachusetts and remained there until the Spring of 1957. NADU had a large variety of aircraft and I was fortunate enough to fly on all of them except the single seat fighters. I was part of the crew on the Super Constellation "Big Dipper" When she crashed in Johnsville, PA and was very fortunate to have been chosen to fly 2nd radio on our ZPG-2N Airship "Snowbird" when she broke the Graf Zeppelin's unrefueled distance and time aloft records. I would enjoy hearing from any one who served at NADU during that time frame..." [E-Mail Updated 19MAR2006 | 15MAY2003]

O'NEIL, Bill ab4fk@earthlink.net "...From 1955 through 1957 I flew the airships with NADU (Naval Air Development Unit) out of NAS South Weymouth, Massachusetts. One of the missions for the squadrons being was to provide aircraft and personnel for the M.I.T. Dlectronic Dngineers. They had designed and were flight testing a very low frequency radar and used the "K" ships as a platform. NADU was assigned many and various aircraft for other projects. My recollection at this late date recalls the P2V-7F, WV-3, SNJ, SNB, R4D, PBY, PBJ, PB4Y-2, SF-2, and many others. A very interesting tour of duty..." [16DEC2000]
