(Gene) Retired erglegv@bellsouth.net "...I was an AE-1 stationed with VP-30 in NAS Patuxent River, Maryland, and was transferred to VP-5 (NAS Jacksonville, Florida) when they transitioned to P-3 Aircraft in June 1966. We deployed to NS Sangley Point, Philippines in May 1967, and came back to NAS Jacksonville, Florida in November 1967. We had a split deployment to NS Rota, Spain in 1968, which was to be 2 six week deployments for each half of the squadron. I was with the first group to deploy. We spent too much money on Sonor Buoys and didn't have gas money back to NAS Jacksonville, Florida! So, we had to spend our second six weeks in tandem. I made Chief before we went to NS Rota, Spain, came back, and about 6 of us electricians were transferred to NATTC, NAS Jacksonville, Florida for Instructor duty. I went back to VP-5 in 1974, for about 6 months and retired on September 30, the day was deploying to NAS Sigonella, Sicily. Prior to my Patrol Navy I was in VW-11, NAS Argentia, Newfoundland, Canada, and AEWTU, NAS Patuxent River, Maryland. I now live in Orange Park, Fl..." [12AUG2003]
