We are attached to the 9th Regiment based out of Port Hueneme (across the street from NAS Point Mugu, California) and after two deployments to Iraq, we are on the schedule for rotation again. I will be taking the Chief's exam this February and after exhausting all options for a commission in the Navy will apply for the LDO program in October 2007. That will be my last chance for gas due to my age and will then finish out my last fours years and retire. My wife Nanci (Jacobs) took orders to Moffitt Field CA after Glenview and after eight years of active duty she also joined the Naval Reserve. VITALE, AT3 David G. vp23tron@yahoo.com "...I served with VP-23 from 1981 until 1984. Served as an "O" level technician. Deployed to NAF Lajes, Azores, Portugal / NS Rota, Spain 1983, NAS Bermuda 1983, NAS Sigonella, Sicily 1984, Detachment to NAS Keflavik, Iceland 1983, and NS Roosevelt Roads, PR 1984. Started the tron schools in Millington, Ten. where I met my best friend Steve Wingard and from there went to NAS Jacksonville, Florida for P-3CUII.5 Comm/Nav School. Both Steve and I were lucky enought to be transferred from there to the same squadron. Looking at the list of men brought back warm feelings of good times. One of my favorite stories is from deployment to NAS Bermuda. AE3 Cronce thought he could out-drink the Tron shop. Little did he know we were very experienced in the throw back of Jack Daniels. We were working the Mid-shift and after shop turnover at 7:00 a.m we promptly headed to the beach for our competition. It was a hot sunny day and Cronce was a very fair skinned guy with Blonde hair. To cut the story short he fell asleep on the picnic table, which of course required the help of the base Security and a van to move him. When he woke up later that evening to report to work he noticed he somehow lost his eyebrows and moustache. This did look very weird because where there was once hair there was now WHITE skin which had a lot of contrast to the red sunburn he got from sleeping on the Picnic table! Want to say hi to Mikey Difar I liked your story and update. Shouts out to Garrett Billmire, Victor Smith and Paul Collins. Glad to hear your ok. I'll be contacting all of you shortly. I'm an officer in a construction company that specializes in interior fitout. I enjoy my Harley and my 26' go fast off shore boat. Want to end with one thing...it wasn't until my NAS Keflavik, Iceland detachment that I knew what L.J. stood for. I always thought it was LIMA JULIET but AXC Larry Johnson(IFT) let me know then that they were his intials! Follow Us!..." [03OCT2004]
