I was stationed at NAS Floyd Bennett Field, New York from January 1945 to mid July when squadron VPB-132 was disestablished and we were sent to NAS Norman, Oklahoma for B24 training to go to South Pacific. War ended in August. Meanwhile I had been accepted for the pilot training program and was sent to the program at Murray State Teachers College in Murray, KY. My pilot at Floyd Bennett was a Shorty Ewing. I heard he bought it in the South Pacific flying a fighter. Would like to hear from anyone that was at NAS Floyd Bennett Field, New York. We flew our planes up from NAS Boca Chica, Florida near Key West, FL about the 1st of January 1945..." [24MAY2004]

I was sent to NAF Cam Ranh Bay, Vietnam for two tours and separated back into the U.S. Naval Air Reserves. I served with a training squadron at Ellington Field, Texas for a number of years before transferring to a P2 Patrol Squadron out of NAS New Orleans, Louisiana. I figured I was an active Naval Reservist for about 11 years before going into the Texas Army National Guard. While in Vietnam, two of my good buddies were Steve Pike and Gary Rapplejay from California. Any Shipmates from VT-27, those who serve in Vietnam, the old Patrol Squadron in Louisiana (I helped the transition from P2's to P-3's) drop me a line! I served with the U.S. Army Military Intelligence Group active from 10/18/2001 to 09/13/2002. Finally...retired. HA! Once an Airdale...always an Airdale!..." [09AUG2003]
