ReunionsREUNIONs: "...22nd and final Bombing 104 Reunion - Portland, Oregon - October 15th through 18th, 2008..." Contributed by Kathleen Brown happytail2003@yahoo.com..." [27JAN2008]

Headquarters will be the beautiful RED LION ON THE RIVER HOTEL on the banks of the mighty Columbia River, the same location as the 1991 Reunion.

Free transportation is provided from the airport by the hotel and parking is free for those who drive.

Rooms will cost $109 plus tax and this rate will apply three days before the Reunion and three days following for those who might like to explore our beautiful state.

Reserve your rooms by calling 503 283 4466 and asking for "In House Reservations" weekdays from 8am to 5pm. Or you can call the Central Reservation number at 800 733 5466 at any time. Be sure to tell them you are with the Navy VPB 104 or Bombing Squadron 104 Group. Also ask about the rate to be sure you get the special rate of $109 per night. Complimentary wireless high-speed Internet access is provided in all guest rooms. There are many restaurants within walking distance of the hotel as well as a large shopping mall.

Downtown Portland is located on the banks of the Willamette River and is a beautiful city that is well worth your time to visit. It has a zoo and several museums as well as a beautiful rose garden. Public transportation is available nearby,is reasonably priced, and can take you to of all of the locations. The Hotel will provide free transportation station where the "Max" train stops and you can go anywhere in the city and surrounding area on "Max". You can even request a transfer and transfer to a bus line if "Max" doesn't go to your destination.

The ocean is two hours drive to the west where Astoria, the Northwest's first city,is located at the mouth of the Columbia River. The Columbia has one of the most dangerous ocean bars in the world and ships have tp cross it when entering the river. Portland is one of the Northwest's major ports even though it is about eighty miles up river from the ocean and many large ocean freighters pass by Astoria every day.

The Columbia River Gorge, a National Scenic Wonder, begins one hour to the East. One can visit beautiful Multnomah Falls and see many waterfalls on the return trip if you take the Old Columbia River Highway rather than the freeway.

One can also visit Mount Hood and majestic Timberline Lodge, have lunch there and then ride the ski chair lift which goes up high on the mountain and affords spectacular views of the surrounding area. You will be surprised at the absence of settlement nearby as it lies in mostly National Forrest lands and is very sparsely populated. (Warning- the altitude is more than 5000 feet and could be quite cold. If you go,come prepared with the proper clothing).

We are eager to host this event in the Norfolk-Virginia Beach area. NAS Norfolk served as VP-24's home base from 1959 to 1967! Many of our shipmates reside in the Tidewater area. We have already done some preliminary work, have identified a couple of venue options, and are shooting for a Sept- Oct timeframe. After the first of the year, we'll nail down a specific headquarters hotel as well as an activities agenda. We are presently thinking about two days of activities - one day in the Norfolk area and one-day in the Virginia Beach area - including a great spouses program!..." ReunionsREUNIONs: "...REUNION Update: Welcome to the actual new Millennium and another great SCREAMING 104 REUNION in Pensacola, Florida. Paul Stevens is the Host and he and his Ready Room crew, Mike Blevins and Joe Fisher, are ready to go to work to make this Reunion one of the best ever. Dates for "Early Birds" are Saturday, November 3 with activities beginning Sunday, November 4 through Tuesday, November 6. Tuesday will be a wonderful thrill with a visit to the Air Station to watch an exclusive Blue Angels rehearsal, just for us. Well, maybe not just for us but we will be close up and able to mingle with the aviators afterwards for photos and autographs. Base of Operations will be the Holiday Inn at University Mall. Telephone number for reservations is 850-474-0100. The room rate is $60 plus tax for one or two persons, a real bargain at today's hotel rates. I made my reservations January 14 and was advised that reservations are going fast for that time period so don't delay. It won't cost anything to make a reservation early and it can always be canceled if an emergency comes up. So far, Beck, Henning and Baxter have already registered so we have a good start for a great turn-out. In the event that no rooms are available at the Holiday Inn, an alternative at the same room rate is the Hampton Inn University just across the street. Phone 850-477-3333..."
