One of the few positive aspects is attached: A Neptune still earning her keep, even though not precisely what was originally intended. I live near one of the fires and a couple of days ago I saw Tanker #43 low overhead, making her approach, prompting my net search. My late Dad was CO of VP-4 out of NAS Whidbey Island, Washington in 1948 when they were flying modified P2V-2's for the Alaska Panhandle aerial mapping survey project, and I believe this is the closest I have been to a Neptune in six decades. (Oddly enough, that mod never got its own designator even though they installed navigator's blisters in the noses due to the precise courses needed for photo mapping.) Thomas F.
