"...I served with VP-13 as a radio operator during the time the squadron was getting ready to go to the South Pacific in 1943. After a few training flights, I was assigned to the flight crew for Admiral Towers. We flew the XPB2Y1 BUNO: 0453, after it was used to train pilots of 3 different squadrons. The last of which was VP-13. Admiral Towers lent the plane and crew to Admiral Nimitz for a flight to NAS North Island, San Diego, California and we were switched to be the Flag Crew for Admiral Nimitz. We flew Admiral Nimitz from NAS Agana, Guam to NAS North Island, San Diego, California on his trip to NAF Washington, D.C. before each major engagement then flew him back to NAS Agana, Guam...HOWARD B.
